In Greek myth, Psyche represents the spirit of the mind.   She was Cupid's bride and not a favorite of her mother-in-law, Aphrodite.   Her marriage to the god of love is a metaphor for the harmonious union of body and soul.  Psyche is often represented in art as a butterfly.
