The Technological Imperative
by Larry Pace

I called my clone on his cell phone
and programmed him to attend a meeting
so I could attend another one
desiring duplicity

I videoconferenced holographically from point-to-multipoint
approximating omnipresence
seeking multiplicity

My web site was wirelessly on your watch
you could not get away from me
or I from you
merging megaplicity

And then I found that
my brain and life and memories
had been transferred to a chip
I was redundant and nonessential
so I unplugged myself before they could do it
saving simplicity

I hope they leave my clone alone
he's a good egg, but I can't get in touch with him
I destroyed my phone
daring duplicity
